Malcolm Glenn
It is with a heavy heart that Ruttger's
says farewell to our friend and Master Gardener, Malcolm Glenn.
Malcolm passed away March 21, 2009 after a long illness. Looking
around the resort, we see Malcolm's creative genius everywhere. His
love of "beauty" abounds in the hundreds of trees, shrubs,
and perennial gardens Malcolm designed and planted. Often we
would see Malcolm leaning on his walking stick staring at a spot, trying
to get the right "feel" for a particular area of the
resort. His humor and inspiration will be missed. Our deepest sympathy
goes out to his wife, Nancy. Ruttger's will be honoring
Malcolm with a memorial garden coming the summer of 2009. |

Removing the pool, September 2008

While excavating the pool we found an old pillar that had been buried in the
fill when Dad
built the pool in c. 1958

We had seen the pillar in old resort photos, and after we saw what appeared
to be a date "16" and
some initials CWJ & VC we looked at some even older photos of the
original lodge which was
built in 1915, and sure enough, we saw the pillar in front of the old lodge.
We knew we had to
incorporate it into the new gardens.
